This is where all the participants of the programme will gather together after the Ignatian Experiments and where MAGIS 2016 will finish. This city, very dear to all Poles, hosted the 6th World Youth Day in 1991.
Częstochowa is known all over the world for its Pauline’s monastery called Jasna Góra (Luminus Mount), the polish national shrine. Here you can find a painting of Our Lady, called the Black Madonna of Częstochowa. It is famous for many miracles and attracts millions of pilgrims from all over the world every year., More than 200,000 people make a foot pilgrimage to Jasna Góra each year, mostly during the summer holidays. The longest route is 600 km long and it takes almost a month to complete it. Poland has a very strong devotion to Our Lady, who was officially named as Queen of Poland by king Jan Kazimierz in 1656.
In the city you can find other places worth seeing, like Old Market (Częstochowa’s downtown) or the Match Industry Museum. Częstochowa is located on the Warta river in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, also known as the polish Jurassic Highland. It is a paradise for all who love outdoor activities: walking, hiking, cycling and rock climbing.
